After four days of testing conditions in the perfect freestyle playground of Lanzarote, three times world champion Jose “Gollito” Estredo and two times world champion Sarah-Quita Offringa raise the silverware at the first stop of the Pwa Canaries tour. The intense week of world-class competition began with the wind refusing to blow on the opening day of competition for the forty-four professional sailors that congregated in Costa Teguise to battle it out at the Lanzarote World Cup. The level of the entire fleet has gone through the roof. The very first heat between Bjorn Saragoza and Daivis Parternina Teran might just as well have been a final. They both pulled off technical combination moves that were last year only being landed by the top 3 sailors, and with more style than Gwen Stefani. Apart from Estredo, Thode, and Tonky Frans who all performed impeccably well with stylish moves throughout their heats, the real tour regular that stood out this week was Canadian, Philip Soltysiak.
Results Men: 1st Jose “Gollito” Estredo 2nd Kiri Thode 3rd Tonky Frans 4th Philip Soltysiak; Women: 1st Sarah-Quita Offringa 2nd Yolanda Freites De Brendt 3rd Laure Treboux 4th Junko Nagoshi.
Overall Rankings Men (after two events): 1st Jose “Gollito” Estredo 2nd Kiri Thode 3rd Steven Van Broeckhoven 4th Tonky Frans 5th Maarten Van Ochten. Women Final 2010 freestyle rankings: 1st Sarah-Quita Offringa 2nd Yolanda Freites De Brendt 3rd Laure Treboux 4th Junko Nagoshi 5th Xenia Kessler.
