Interview to Kauli Seadi PDF Print E-mail
by Silvana Casetti

Back from the second place at Cabo Verde and with three World Wave Titles, Kauli Seadi is a part of that great talents’ generation that it has been able to take the best benefit by experience made in Freestyle to climb the top of the Wave ranking combining the two disciplines in the best way possible.

Kauli, would you want to tell us something of you? What kind of person are you?

I’m a super active person, none stop, I love sports, especially the ones with boards!

When and how did you start Windsurfing?

I started at the lake in front of my parents place, when I was 12 years old, I was going together with two good friends that were just starting as well, one of them was a surf shaper: he made my first custom board!

What does the windsurfing for you?

It’s my life style, means everything to me. I love these sport and I’m glad I can make money doing it!

What do you feel riding the big waves like Jaws?

I feel fear. It’s almost like you are crossing your own limits and feels like you are in big danger!

Which are positives and negatives aspects of your sport?

Ever thing is positive really, the only thing sometimes I miss is to me a little more at home!

Many successes in Freestyle but, some years ago, the decision to compete only in Wave. What was the motivation for your choice?

I made this choice since I have started on windsurf, my goal was wave, and at home we mostly sail waves, so freestyle was just a complement!

You have three Wave world titles and a great second place at the first competition of World Tour 2009 in Cabo Verde. What do you think of your opponents and who is the most dangerous waver to win the world title 2009?

It is very early still, but Kevin Pritchard is a great competitor, Marcilio Browne, Victor Fernandez, Josh Angulo… Still we have a lot to happen!

What do you think of Wave calendar 2009? Would you like to change something?

I would increase Ibiraquera! Ah, ah, ah!

About this, what can you tell us about a contest in Brazil, like a couple of years ago? Do you think there is the chance to get back on schedule soon?

Hope it is. Last year we have elections and then no budget for the contest. Hope this year it happens!

We know that you have a windsurfing center in your home spot. Would you want to talk us about it and how is it going?

This is my satisfaction. I always wanted to have a windsurf and sports center in general, so people can meet and go practices together sports. We are doing good, we have JP boards and Neilpryde sails 2009, stand up boards from Startboard, and Mormaii kites and we have a tennis court as well so you have all kinds of activity!

How would you tempt more persons to windsurfing? Any special advice?

I think we’re on a good direction, boards are lighter, better shapes, sails are going in the same direction, masts are stronger, so I just see windsurf looking good on the water, if there is wind there is no doubt of what is the most fun sport!

You travel a lot, both for competition and for pleasure or for your sponsors. What are the best things that you take home after your trips?

A nice trophy... Or in my memory, some good waves ridden!

Do you like any other sports, maybe in your free time?

Sure: surf, stand up paddle, kite, foil, motocross, paraglide and tennis!

Do you have any hobby?

I like building things, I made once the sofa for my house, is a very nice one!

Do you have a dream to come true?

Push the level of wave riding to new steps if possible!

What would you say to Surferworld’s friends?

Let’s rip the waves, and keep your minds up to preserve the ambient we live in!

Thank you Kauli and good luck!
